December 4, 2012
Today marks the 9th anniversary of the opening of the Square Cup. Many of you know that the Cup’s operation was halted earlier this year. We basically ran out of steam and the challenges of trying to push the idea any further seemed pointless. Other, more immediate things like day-jobs, kids, family have the highest priority and to spend resources, hope, and energy on an idea left me wondering if it was really worth it. And that was enough to call it a day. At least that’s how we felt this last spring.
How many of us feel that way in some area of our life? The dream that you’ve poured yourself into has yet to yield any meaningful return? Your weight that never drops, a marriage that has run its course, an addiction you cannot break, a job that brings no meaningful return or even a prayer that seemingly goes unanswered? I know that there is a lot of emotion when it comes to your own Square Cup. And, the idea of putting any more hope into that effort, or to pray that prayer one more time seems to be an impossible task. You think to yourself – I can’t do it again, I don’t have the strength, or my hope is gone, I’m exhausted, I can’t – I can’t do this again.
You know the feeling.
But as I think about this anniversary of the Cup’s opening, I remember why we did this in the first place – the vision we had for a space in this beautiful, tiny town of Stromsburg. We wanted to create a place that could serve, to minister, to encourage people through the platform of a coffeehouse. And, now, when I remember that vision I can set my sight on a goal – an end point, a destination that I believe is worth striving towards – and it does something to me. It inspires me to do it once again – to take another shot at that goal of creating moments for people like you, who are wanting to have a place where you can come, rest, engage, disengage, or whatever you need the cup to be. We will do our best to make that happen for you.
Are you living your own version of a Square Cup? Have you lost hope? Remember the vision that you once had, it still can be stirred once again, it can serve as a point in your future that can inspire you to take another shot at reaching your goal. That job that’s going nowhere, or that relationship that is stalled, or even worse, those hopes that were dashed can be rekindled, if only you can reclaim it, to lean into not just the day that lies ahead, but the day as being a step towards a life that you intend to live fully and with meaning.
With that vision in mind, we are going to reopen the Square Cup – this Friday night, December 7th from 7:00 pm to 10:ish.
As I write these words, I feel as if I’m writing a declaration. Try it yourself – write your vision, write your goal for your life – it can be a powerful experience and few do it. But those who do are those who achieve it.
Come in for what we hope is an experience that is meaningful to each of you. See you Friday night – December 7th, starting at 7:00 pm.
Can you articulate the vision you have for your own life? Can you tell someone why you do what it is that you do? Do you have a passion for living life to the fullest? Want help in defining it for your own life or your own business?
That vision does exist for you. See it for the first time, or rediscover it. Share your story of your own “square cup”. We hope to see you Friday night.
